The Whitewater Weekly
Established 1981
The Whitewater Weekly is a weekly publication that began in January of 1981. Operations were stopped in March of 1986 due to a decline in the rural economy brought on by high interest rates, a drop in the value of land and as a result of the Payment In Kind Program which began in 1983.
The Payment In Kind Program was Carter's solution to the grain surplus brought on by the Russian Grain Embargo. The program paid farmers not to plant crops. Payments were made with surplus grain. The result was a fatal blow to businesses in farming communities throughout the country.
We did not have a cushy deal with a banker who would issue fraudulent loans so we took our lumps and went on. We have now come back to life, gone online and would like to shed light on the events that we feel are of importance to this country.
